New kid on the block

Hobbitat opened its doors in January 2012 and has since constructed 7 “Hobs” (our version of small houses).  Each one is unique in design and materials used.

Our passion is for small (300 sq’) structures, thoughtfully designed, using today’s technologies wrapped in sustainable and re-purposed materials.

All of our Hobs are built in our shop and moved outside when they are ready to be set.  Mud, snow, rain and careless concern are not in our repertoire.  Normally our Hobs can be set and weather-tight in one day. With over 30 years of custom home design/building, our team delivers one of a kind structures that only knowledge and thoughtful execution can produce.  We are passionate with our efforts and it shows in every Hob we create. We are currently building 13 Hobs for Blue Moon Rising on Deep Creek Lake. It’s a center for sustainable education.  They are doing very cool things here in western Maryland.  We are just a part of their outreach to sustainable living.  Check them out at

Each of our Hobs built for BMR has a full bathroom, ¾ kitchen and can sleep up to 4 people. Porches are built once the Hobs are set in place.

Hob #5 & 6 will winter in our yard till spring when they will be moved to their new home at Blue Moon Rising. Hob # 7 is just getting started inside our shop.
